The presidential candidate Donald Trump is to meet Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday at his residence Mar-a-Lago in Florida, he announces on his platform Truth Social.
Netanyahu will also hold a speech in the US Congress on Wednesday. The US Vice President Kamala Harris will not be present, but she and Netanyahu are expected to meet for a private meeting, according to sources that American media have spoken to. During the meeting, Harris will convey her message that the war must come to an end and discuss the negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza.
Netanyahu's trip to the US takes place during a period when the relationship between the two countries is strained due to Israel's warfare in Gaza. Ahead of the visit, Netanyahu said that he "will strive to anchor the US's support, which is so crucial for Israel."
On Thursday, President Biden is also expected to meet the Israeli leader. Biden is critical of Israel's handling of Gaza and says that he will dedicate his last six months as president to ending the war and bringing home the hostages.
