In a leaked recording of a phone call, the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is heard trying to persuade the independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr to support him, reports BBC.
"I would like to see you do something", Trump says in the recording, and continues: "And I think it would be good for you and so big for you. And we're going to win". Kennedy responds "yes".
A video clip where Robert F Kennedy Jr is seen talking on the phone with Trump was posted early on Tuesday morning on X by Kennedy's eldest son Bobby Kennedy III, but was quickly deleted.
Robert F Kennedy Jr has criticized Trump during his election campaign, but the conversation shows that they have good relations with each other. A spokesperson for Kennedy Jr said on Monday that he does not plan to end his election campaign. Kennedy also apologized for the leaked recording.
In the conversation, Trump brings up scientifically unfounded fears about vaccines - which is one of Kennedy's key issues. Trump expressed concern about the number of vaccines given to infants.
Robert F Kennedy Jr is aiming to be on the ballots in all 50 states in the US presidential election this fall. He has no chance of winning the election, but his candidacy has raised concerns in both Trump's and Biden's camps, as he may come to pick up crucial votes in decisive swing states. Polls show that he may come to attract voters to the same extent from both candidates.
