Russia's president Vladimir Putin demands that Ukraine surrender the entire eastern Donbass area as well as the Crimean peninsula to Russia. He also wants to freeze the front line in Cherson and Zaporizjzja. The agreement is however not finalized and can therefore be subject to change, according to Bloomberg's sources.
According to the sources, the USA is now working to convince Ukraine and European leaders to support the agreement, which would mean a major victory for Putin. Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyj has however previously repeated that they are not willing to give up territories occupied by Russia and that it is contrary to the country's constitution to surrender land.
The plan is fundamentally similar to the proposals for peace negotiations that the USA's president Donald Trump previously presented. It also aligns with several of the peace demands that Putin previously presented.
Neither the USA, Russia, nor Ukraine want to comment on Bloomberg's information.
During the next week, Putin and Trump are expected to meet. The White House has previously stated that Zelenskyj will participate in a meeting with the two, but according to information, Trump is "open" to a meeting with only Putin. The White House still prefers a three-party meeting, announced its press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday.
