The French football club Lyon is struggling with significant economic problems. Now, a supervisory authority has given an ultimatum: Improve the economy or face forced relegation.
American owner John Textor is, however, not worried about the club's debts of approximately 5.85 billion kronor:
The local authorities only looked at the French club and did not take into account the hundreds of millions of dollars that will come in from other parts of our business.
Textor's company, Eagle Football Holdings, is also the largest owner of English Crystal Palace, Brazilian Botafogo, Belgian Molenbeek, and American FC Florida.
We earn around 90 million euros per year in player sales. And it will continue. But don't worry, it won't be your favorite player or the best players if we don't have someone who can replace him and play better, says Textor and continues:
I have great confidence in our numbers, but I never have great confidence in how a supervisory authority views things.
Lyon, which was in the semi-final of the Champions League in 2020, is currently fifth in Ligue 1.
