For four decades, Agne Jälevik was a recurring face on TV screens. He worked as a reporter, commentator, editor and program leader – not least for SVT's "Sportspegeln".

He actually retired in 2007 but continued with occasional appearances until 2011.

"Remembers his humor"

"I remember Agne from childhood as one of the classic Sportspegel profiles, as a commentator and program leader. I also got to work with Agne for several years, when he was an editor who loved it when something unexpected happened that made it hot in Sportnytt's schedule. Then he rubbed his hands in a special way. I remember his humor and his great love for sports", says SVT's sports manager Max Bursell.

Sports journalism was not an obvious path. He grew up in a religious family, where sports were not part of everyday life. In an interview with Expressen 2020, he told how he could only later devote himself to what would become his great passion.

One of Björklund's boys

I was also part of the congregation in my youth. I did not want to disappoint my parents. But I broke out when I moved away from home. Then I also started with sports. I did everything you could think of. And it was so much fun to finally get to play football, bandy and handball, said Jälevik.

The journalist journey began around 1970 when he, as one of several – Christer Ulfbåge, Arne Hegerfors, Fredrik Belfrage and Ingvar Oldsberg were some of the others – was recruited by the legendary sports journalist Lars-Gunnar Björklund. Then he took the route via Sveriges Radio in Örebro before moving to SVT sports in the early 1980s.

Agne Jälevik was 82 years old.
