The incident took place at Trump's golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday. What has emerged about the arrested man is based on source information that CNN and several other American media outlets have taken part of.

On social media accounts linked to the man, it appears that he has a strong commitment to Ukraine and that he seemingly has been involved in getting foreign soldiers into the country to fight against the Russian troops. According to BBC, he himself has made at least one trip there.

In a post from April, he writes about Trump – who, among other things, has threatened to cut support to Kiev – and his policy in negative terms by suggesting that the ex-president should change his slogan to "make Americans slaves again master".

He has also been suspected of crimes on several occasions since the end of the 1990s and onwards, including forgery, a hit-and-run accident, and weapons offenses.

Early on Monday morning, Reuters publishes images showing police on site at one of the man's previous residences in the state of North Carolina.

Trump out on a golf round

The 58-year-old's son describes him to CNN as a "loving and caring father" and continues:

I don't know what happened in Florida and I hope this is just something that has been blown out of proportion, because from what little I've heard, it doesn't sound like the man I know.

Trump was out playing golf when employees of the Secret Service security service noticed that a rifle barrel was sticking out of a bush about a hundred meters from the presidential candidate. At the scene, an AK-47 automatic rifle with a scope and a camera were found. Shots were fired in connection with the discovery, but it is unclear whether the arrested man himself fired any weapons. It is clear that he was arrested after fleeing in a car.
