The spread of the contagious disease mpox has slowed down somewhat on the African continent, announces the African Union's health organization.
Over the past four weeks, 15 countries have reported nearly 11,500 cases, compared to 12,800 during the previous four weeks, which suggests that the spread of the disease has decreased somewhat.
We are still in the acute phase of the outbreak, which means we need to double our efforts to control mpox in Africa, says the union's health organization chairman Jean Kaseya.
Unfortunately, we are still losing many lives, continues Kaseya.
So far this year, 50,840 cases and over 100 deaths related to mpox have been registered.
