Now it's up to the government to ensure that Jessika Roswall gets a heavyweight post in the new commission, comments Social Democratic Party leader Magdalena Andersson.
"The government must ensure that Sweden's influence in Europe remains strong. Over the past five years, Ylva Johansson (S) has held one of the heaviest commissioner posts", says Andersson in a written comment.
One of the Green Party's EU parliamentarians, Alice Bah Kuhnke, sends congratulations to Roswall.
"Becoming Sweden's EU Commissioner at a crucial time is a significant task. The major issues of our time, the climate crisis, the erosion of the rule of law, and growing anti-democratic forces in the EU, require brave and action-oriented commissioners", she says in a written comment.
From predecessor Ylva Johansson (S), Sweden's outgoing EU Commissioner, also comes a congratulations:
"You have a solid EU commitment and important experience that you will make great use of as a commissioner. I know that you will always work for the EU's best!"
