Dousa Calls Gaza Situation Apocalyptic Amid Famine Crisis

Minister for Development Cooperation Benjamin Dousa (The Moderate Party) says that he has difficulty finding words after IPC's message that fully developed famine prevails in parts of Gaza. ”What is happening in Gaza now is apocalyptic”, he says in a written comment.

He emphasizes that famine has only been confirmed in one other case in the whole world since 2017 and then in Sudan.

In Gaza, the situation is different, he says. Trucks are waiting outside the gates with, among other things, Swedish support in the form of food packages, medicine, water, and other things.

"But the Israeli government has, over a longer period, severely restricted imports and we are now witnessing the consequences. Using starvation of civilians as a method of warfare constitutes a war crime", says Dousa.

The government wants to increase pressure on Israel to allow humanitarian aid in and is, among other things, pushing for the freezing of the trade agreement between the EU and Israel.

"Unimpeded humanitarian access and import of humanitarian aid must be ensured", says Dousa.
