On National Day, the inner gates of the courtyard are usually opened and members of the royal family greet visitors warmly. However, this part is missing this year.

"The Royal Palace is open to visitors all day. However, the inner courtyard is not accessible this year. This is a decision made by the Palace Administration and is based on economic savings," writes Hovets informationschef Margareta Thorgren in an email to TT.

Last year, the palace announced that it would take a number of cost-cutting measures due to the tough economic situation. This totals 20-25 million kronor, according to Svenska Dagbladet.

Several royal palaces will close to visitors this summer, reports Aftonbladet, including Rosendals slott, Strömsholms slott, and the royal stables.

On National Day, the royal family will participate in national celebrations across the country, including the official celebration at Skansen in Stockholm.
