It was a very emotional meeting at the finish line when Hanna Öberg finally crossed the finish line, almost six minutes after her four years younger sister.
I thought when is she coming? Says Elvira Öberg with a laugh.
I wanted to share this with her, because I wouldn't have been able to stand here today without her. I'm completely convinced of that. That she also delivered the flag, it was mighty.
For Hanna, the meeting was at least as emotional.
It was really nice, it was probably the best thing that could happen considering how my day was, she says.
I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I'm really happy for Elvira's sake, it's someone I want to become World Champion, it's her. On the other hand, I'm damn frustrated too, says Hanna Öberg.
"I don't give up that easily"
She crashed in a downhill slope and fell so badly that the butt plate of the rifle broke. She could shoot with the rifle in the prone series, but snow had also gotten in, so she missed five shots in the prone series. She switched to the Swedish team's reserve rifle before the standing series.
But it would have been easier to shoot with mine, she says after missing another four times.
There was no thought of giving up, though, despite being far behind.
I don't give up that easily, says Hanna Öberg.
Big emotions
After the sisters' gold hug, there were big emotions in the entire Swedish team after Elvira Öberg had secured the team's first gold in this World Championship. Even more tears came for Elvira Öberg when she had finished singing the Swedish national anthem – though she sang the second verse twice.
I was unsure if they would take one or two verses. Better that I sang something, she says with a laugh.
After the singing, the tears came again.
These are the moments you dream about. It becomes so many thoughts when you stand highest on the podium, then it becomes a lot of emotions, she says.
To get to take gold after the journey I've had, it's so big.
Elvira Öberg fell ill just a few weeks before the World Championship.
