Thomas Bach has been the chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 2013. But after the election in March next year, it will come to an end. He confirms it himself.
New times require new leaders, he says.
According to the Olympic rules, an IOC chairman can sit for a maximum of twelve years, which for Bach's part means 2025. But several members have previously suggested that this should be changed so that Bach can stay on for another period.
But that will not be the case. The 70-year-old German is stepping down next year.
It is the best for our beloved Olympic movement, he says.
