The canoeist Melina Andersson, 26, was extremely close to a medal on K1 1000 meters during the World Championship in Italy. The Swede came fourth in the finish, only half a second from the bronze.

It was really tough. I think it's the toughest thousand meter race in history. No thousand meter final has gone so fast. Considering that and the opposition, I'm satisfied, says Andersson after the finish.

Despite the medal being absent, she takes with her important messages.

The goal is always to take a medal, but I'm satisfied. It feels promising for the future, she says.

Already on Sunday, the next challenge awaits and the considerably longer distance of 5000 meters. There, Andersson feels well prepared.

Good. I feel ready. We're doing it again.

Previously, Melina Andersson has several World Championship and European Championship medals in the two distances, but she is still waiting for her first individual senior gold in sprint.
