A person has been found dead in connection with a car explosion in Östberga in southern Stockholm on Friday evening. The deceased is still not identified.

The police received several calls about a loud bang in the area at 9 pm and initiated a comprehensive police operation to search for one or several perpetrators.

The police have initiated a preliminary investigation into murder, serious crime against the law on flammable and explosive goods, and public endangerment.

On Saturday morning, there was still no one detained.

The deceased person was found, according to the police, "in connection with the car", but does not want to give any closer details than that. Whether the car's owner is known to the police since before, they do not want to comment on either.

A large cordon was set up and technicians worked during the night to secure tracks.

It will provide answers to where the explosion occurred, whether it was outside the car or in the car, says the police's press spokesperson Per Fahlström.

The police are also investigating whether there may be a connection to the explosion during the night in Södertälje, where an apartment building was damaged on the entrance door and windows.

We always do that in this type of serious crime. It's routine.
