Gu got big headlines during the Olympic Games in Beijing 2022. The then 18-year-old freeskier was born in the USA but chose to compete for China. At the Olympic Games, she was called a "traitor" and became a pawn in the political game between the great powers. Gu took two gold medals at the games.

Now the 21-year-old is aiming for the Olympic Games in Milano Cortina in March next year, but participation is at risk. Gu has namely suffered an injury.

On the Chinese platform Weibo, Gu writes, where she has 6.7 million followers, that "a terrible accident" occurred during training in New Zealand. Exactly how long Gu will be out is not known.

Gu hints that a fan disturbed her and writes that she "must be able to focus on training" and that she rarely has time to eat lunch or go to the toilet. "So please do not take pictures or film when I train", she writes.
