The Senate in Thailand has voted overwhelmingly to approve same-sex marriage. The decision was the final step in a multi-step process to secure approval of the law.
130 of the Senate's 152 present members voted in favour of the bill. Four voted against and 18 abstained.
The next step is now for the bill to be approved by King Maha Vajiralongkorn and published in the official gazette, which will also announce a date within 120 days when the law comes into force.
Thailand becomes the third country in Asia to approve same-sex marriage, after Taiwan and Nepal.
