The leading indexes on the New York Stock Exchange fell back slightly on Tuesday after several days of increase. But the index movements were not large.
The broad S&P 500 index and the Dow Jones industrial index both fell 0.2 percent, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index closed 0.3 percent minus.
Semiconductor giant Nvidia had a tough day and lost 2.1 percent.
Cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks presented an interim report that was better than analysts had expected. The share rose 7.2 percent.
Pharmaceutical manufacturer Eli Lilly also performed strongly and rose 3.1 percent.
