The reason is information from Romanian authorities about a positive special treatment of the Russian friend Calin Georgescu on the social media platform Tiktok and suspected Russian influence.
In the first round of voting, Georgescu received the most votes, which has been described as a major upset. Tiktok denies the allegations.
The EU Commission is urging, among other things, Tiktok to save internal documents and to inform about how they handle the risk of intentional manipulation.
"We have already cooperated with the Commission and will continue to do so. We look forward to establishing facts against the background of some of the speculations and incorrect reports that we have seen", says a spokesperson for Tiktok in a statement.
The second round of voting will be held on December 8.
