Never before have so many female authors been nominated for the Booker Prize. The "short list" presented contains five women and one man.
Among those competing for the prestigious literary prize are American Rachel Kushner with the spy novel "Creation Lake", British Samantha Harvey's "Orbital", which follows six astronauts on the International Space Station ISS, and Yael van der Wouden, who is the first Dutch author to be nominated.
The other authors on the "final list" are American Percival Everett, Canadian Anne Michaels, and Australian Charlotte Wood.
The Booker Prize can be awarded to fiction works by authors of any nationality, written in English and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024. The prize ceremony will take place on November 12.
Last year's winner was Irish author Paul Lynch and his dystopian novel "Prophet Song".
