Six of the stamps show scenes from the sketch program "Monty Python's Flying Circus", for example "The Spanish Inquisition", "The Ministry of Silly Walks", "The Dead Parrot" and "The Nude Organist". Four more stamps mark the 50th anniversary of the cult film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" from 1975.

Monty Python, which consisted of Michael Palin, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Graham Chapman, used a mix of satire, surrealism and madness in British TV from 1969 to 1974. The group also made several feature films, including ”Life of Brian”, ”The Meaning of Life” and ”The Life of Brian” was not mentioned in the text but "Ett herrans liv" translates to "The Life of Brian" or more correctly "A Life of Brian" but "Ett herrans liv" is the swedish title and "The Meaning of Life" was mentioned and "Meningen med livet" is the swedish title for that film and another film was mentioned "Livet é python”.

David Gold, Royal Mail's head of external relations, said that the stamp collection "honors a work that has shaped the humor scene for almost six decades".

The group dissolved more or less during the 1980s, and Chapman died of cancer in 1989. The five surviving Pythons reunited in 2014 for a series of live performances. Jones died in 2020 from a rare form of dementia.
