We have talked for a long time about a sequel, but we had to wait for Lindsay's character to be old enough to have a 17-year-old daughter, explains Jamie Lee Curtis at a digital press conference.
In 2003, the comedy "Freaky Friday" became a box office success worldwide. A mother and her daughter swapped bodies with each other after eating lucky cookies. More than two decades later, the sequel is coming - and now it's four women who swap bodies with each other with chaos as a result.
Swap identity
In addition to Lohan and Curtis, Julia Butters plays Lohan's daughter, while Sophia Hammonds plays the daughter of the man Lohan's character is going to marry. In "Freakier Friday", it's suddenly four people who, so to speak, swap identities with each other.
Jamie Lee Curtis, who is an outspoken feminist, highlights the fact that almost everyone behind "Freakier Friday", both behind and in front of the camera, are women.
It's really something good and it should become a standard for other productions to follow, she says.
The 66-year-old actress also talks about the beauty craze that prevails, not least in Hollywood.
I think it was fun here to drive with how old I am. When you wake up every morning and look like this, then it's not a good day.
"I. Hate. It"
But Jamie Lee Curtis is not vain, she claims. And definitely not interested in fashion.
There are a lot of actors who love to dress up, who love clothes, who love fashion, who love being a model. I. Hate. It. It feels like I need to wrestle with others' idea of who I am as opposed to my own thoughts about myself.
Fashion, on the other hand, is something that Lindsay Lohan likes.
Fashion is a way to express oneself. You can change character just by changing clothes.
Lohan and Curtis were involved in influencing how the script for the new film would look. Therapist Tess, who Jamie Lee Curtis plays, got a podcast in the new film, for example, after consultation with the actors.
In one version of the script, I would play the guitar, but we skipped that. You can say that Lindsay and I were script consultants, but we were not involved in writing the script.
