Interest in the Paralympics has never been greater. During the summer's competitions in Paris, the media impact in Sweden increased by 54 percent compared to the Paralympics in Tokyo 2021, according to the Swedish Parasport Federation.
"Strong moments like when Nicolina Pernheim Goodrich takes her long-awaited medal at her fourth Paralympics, and just eight months after giving birth to her daughter, engage enormously", says Elias Håkansson, press officer at the Swedish Paralympic Committee, in a press release.
The Paralympics 2024 were a public success, with over 12 million sold tickets. That the interest was so great even in Sweden delights Håkansson, who thinks that the Paralympics finally get the recognition they deserve.
"The Paralympic values can inspire and change attitudes both on and off the arenas", says Håkansson.
