After 369 matches in the club, AIK chose not to extend with the veteran Eric Norin. The Stockholm club conveyed this through its channels, and Eric Norin received the message on Instagram.
I am as shocked as everyone else. It's just embarrassing handled from their side, it just looks really weird, said Norin to Expressen.
The 33-year-old commented on the Instagram post with "fun that you got to know this" – a comment that was then blocked, says the player.
The farewell has attracted a lot of attention and has been criticized. Now AIK responds.
"We want to clarify that the communication before the decision not to extend the cooperation with Eric Norin went through dialogue with the player's representative, and sports manager Lasse Johansson's view of that dialogue is that it was clarified that the player was not included in the plans for the coming season", the club writes on its website.
After the misunderstanding, AIK and Lasse Johansson are now reviewing their routines for farewell to avoid similar situations in the future.
"Johansson had no intention of neglecting Eric and regrets that our picture differs from Eric's. It is unfortunate and unwanted that the parties do not have the same view of how the dialogue has looked", writes AIK.
Eric Norin came to AIK as a junior and has played for the club for nine seasons in different stints.
