The French rugby star Melvyn Jaminet is suspended for 34 weeks, announces the French rugby federation.
Jaminet is also fined 30,000 euros, approximately 350,000 kronor.
The penalty comes after the rugby player made racist remarks in a video. The incident occurred during a national team gathering in South America, and Jaminet was sent home after the video surfaced.
"After our disciplinary committee met on Friday, it was decided that Melvyn Jaminet has 'damaged the higher interests of rugby', writes the French rugby federation in a statement.
An investigation into Jaminet for hate crimes has also been initiated in Paris.
I'll hit the next Arab I see on the street, said Jaminet in the video that got him penalized.
