In France, practitioners must seek out tests abroad after the Ministry of Sports and the Department of Health in France stamped the samples as illegal.
The International Athletics Association (WA) is collaborating with the French association to help athletes get tested at other competitions or at their training camps before the World Championship, says Jackie Brock-Doyle, head of special projects at WA.
The other country that has encountered problems is Canada.
There, the equipment of the company hired by the Canadian athletics association has turned out not to be approved by WA. In Canada, some tests had already been conducted in connection with the national championships.
The gender tests can be done through saliva or blood tests and one test applies for the entire athlete's career.
