Hammarby Falls Short Against Gais as Mjällby Extends Lead

Hammarby had their sights set on three points at home against Gais. But after a late deciding goal, it was instead the Gothenburg team that snatched the win with 2–1. Only minutes later, top rival Mjällby equalized to 1–1 at home against Djurgården and thus pulled away with another point in the battle for gold.

Gais took the lead against Hammarby after twelve minutes when Harun Ibrahim utilized his penalty in the best way. Just three minutes later, Bajen equalized through a delicious free kick signed Nahir Besara.

Hammarby then pushed for a leading goal. But with just minutes left of the match, it was Gais who took the lead through 25-year-old Edvin Becirovic. 2–1, which also became the final result.

"Looking at the table"

Hammarby coach Kim Hellberg was pleased with his team's performance after the match, but was disappointed over missed scoring opportunities:

We only have one player (in our squad) who has scored a lot of goals. That's the hardest thing in football, he says in Max's broadcast and continues:

Of course it stings.

When asked how much focus he puts on the table, and that Mjällby extended their league lead with a point, Hellberg replies:

Of course I dream of winning and look at the table every day. But we also need to find a balance in that, he says and continues:

We get very eager to win this match. We need to find a balance in that. In pursuing something.

Mjällby equalized late

In the other top match, it looked for a long time like Mjällby would suffer their first loss of the season at home against Djurgården. The visitors made it 1–0 through Tokmac Nguen in the first half – a result that stood for a long time.

But after an equalizer in the 95th minute from Uba Charles, it was instead Mjällby who increased their league lead in the top division with another point. The Blekinge team now stands at 47 points – five more than Hammarby.

We are lucky to get a point with us. We made a really bad first half but step up in the second. We should be satisfied with getting out of here with a point, says Mjällby's Elliot Stroud to Max after the match.
