Thomas Pålsson, acting Director-General of the Geological Survey of Sweden, SGU, has been tasked with proposing how the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design, Arkdes, can be incorporated into the Modern Museum, as well as analyzing whether it is suitable to do the same with the National Public Art Council.
The purpose is to create a cohesive government agency structure that strengthens the art, architecture, design, and form sector nationally and internationally, and increases efficiency while reducing vulnerability.
"The state administration needs to be cost-effective and purposefully organized, resources need to be released to focus on core activities. I look forward to reviewing the investigator's proposal," says Liljestrand in a press release.
The proposal is not yet public, but Thomas Pålsson tells Magasin K that he proposes that the three different operations will continue to be artistically independent in their assignments in the form of three departments.
But the entire administration will be merged, resulting in a strong administration that holds everything together. Costs for IT, HR, economy, and licenses will be streamlined when everything becomes one, which releases more funds for core activities, he says and continues:
This is very small government agencies that, even together, become a small agency with 216 employees. It will become a much more powerful and vital agency by merging, it is too expensive to be as small as they are today.
The proposal will now be processed in the Government Offices.
