A 25-year-old knife-wielding man has been shot by police in Bromma, western Stockholm. The man was shot in the leg in connection with an arrest at a restaurant.

We receive an alarm that a man has attacked another man with a knife. It is not entirely clear whether it happened inside the restaurant or just outside. As it appears in this situation, these two men do not know each other at all, says the police's press spokesperson Carina Skagerlind.

The alarm came at 20.41 on New Year's Day. When the police arrived, one of the police officers felt compelled to shoot the knife-wielding man in the leg, according to the police.

He will, of course, receive medical attention. He is arrested and suspected of attempted murder, says Skagerlind.

The man who was attacked with a knife has been taken to hospital. He is in his 40s.

We have been able to exchange a few words with him. But he undoubtedly has serious injuries, says Skagerlind.

The man who was shot in the leg is not believed to have life-threatening injuries.
