The aid organization Human Bridge is stopping the collection of textiles in the Stockholm area, reports Mitt i. The organization has sounded the alarm about a textile crisis, after the requirement to sort textile waste.

Human Bridge is the largest in the country for textile collection and collaborates with over 140 municipalities. In Stockholm County, they have had agreements with 23 municipalities and have around 504 collection boxes.

The collection containers have quickly filled up and at some, piles of old textiles have accumulated. The fact that more Swedes are recycling textiles has also led to an unreasonable workload, according to the organization.

At the turn of the year, the law on textile waste came into force. But from 1 October, private individuals will again be allowed to throw away broken textiles in the residual waste, after a decision from the government.
