Ten police officers have been shot to death at a checkpoint about seven miles from the Afghan border in Pakistan. The Pakistani Taliban movement has taken responsibility for the act.
The exchange of gunfire in the district of Dera Ismail Khan in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province lasted for almost an hour, according to a high-ranking intelligence officer.
Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 2021, violence has increased in Pakistan. The police are regularly targeted in the attacks.
