The streets in Fa'ra have been torn up by Israeli bulldozers. The area with approximately 8,000 inhabitants has been hard hit in the escalation of the raids that Israel is said to be directing against militant Palestinians. The water supply and electricity have been cut off, and residents say that sewage is seeping onto the destroyed roads.
Last week, Israel also closed all roads leading to and from the camp, and blocked deliveries of food and other necessities, according to Asim Mansour from the local Palestinian administration in Fa'ra.
On Saturday, Israel's military is said to have secured a passage for civilians to leave the area. According to Mansour, at least 1,000 inhabitants have fled.
Israel's military has not responded to AP's questions about the evacuations from the refugee camp.
After the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into effect in January, the military launched intensified raids on the northern West Bank – an escalation also from the regular nightly raids that the area has been subjected to since Hamas' terrorist attacks against Israel on October 7, 2023, writes AP.
Israel has stated that the operations are being carried out for counter-terrorism purposes.
