American star and Olympic Games gold medalist Kate Douglass, 22, broke a 15-year-old world record in the 200-meter breaststroke at the World Cup in short course.
I'm surprised. I thought maybe I'd never be able to break this record, she says in the Eurovision Sports TV broadcast.
Douglass took two Olympic Games gold medals (and four medals in total) in Paris, including the 200-meter breaststroke. That was in long course.
Now she has beaten her fellow countrywoman Rebecca Soni's short course record from 2009 by 41 hundredths to 2:14.16 in Incheon, South Korea.
Kate Douglass crushed her opponents and was more than five seconds ahead of the runner-up, Tara Kinder, Australia.
Sophie Hansson finished sixth and her 2:22.92 was almost nine seconds behind Douglass.
