The British author Samantha Harvey is awarded this year's Booker Prize for the novel "Orbital". The book takes place over a 24-hour period and follows six astronauts on board the International Space Station, ISS.

Never before have so many female authors been nominated for the Booker Prize. On the "short list" presented in September, five women and one man were found.

The Booker Prize can be awarded to literary works of fiction by authors of any nationality, written in English and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024.

Several Booker Prize winners have later been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, such as Nadine Gordimer, JM Coetzee, Kazuo Ishiguro, and VS Naipaul.
