The Norwegian National Theatre in Oslo, like the Royal Opera in Stockholm, is facing renovations. On Friday, Norwegian Culture Minister Lubna Jaffery presented a report from the government agency Statsbygg, with three different renovation solutions.
One of the alternatives involves setting up two smaller stages in a new building underground on Tullinløkka, in central Oslo, during the renovation. At the same time, the National Gallery will also be renovated. The solution is estimated to cost 9.75 billion Norwegian kronor and take 18 years to complete, which is the shortest timeframe of the alternatives, reports NTB.
This is the most expensive alternative, but also the one preferred by both Statsbygg and theatre director Kristian Seltun.
It's important that we can keep the business going during the renovation. The Tullinløkka solution is good because we can operate there while the renovation is ongoing, he says to NRK.
The Norwegian government has not yet taken a stance on which of the three renovation alternatives will be implemented.
