Sweden is providing 100 million kronor to an energy vulnerability fund for Moldova. The money is intended to help households that have been severely affected by Russia's cessation of gas deliveries to the country.
We see an aggressive Russia, not just in Ukraine. Sweden is now trying to support and alleviate the consequences of using energy and gas as a means of influence, says Foreign Trade Minister Benjamin Dousa (M) by phone from Chisinau in Moldova.
The gas stop, which is a consequence of Ukraine no longer willing to facilitate Russian gas through its territory, primarily affects the Russian-backed breakaway region of Transnistria. The EU has also recently announced emergency aid to the region.
It becomes clear to everyone that it is Russia that is causing problems for Transnistria and Moldova, and it is the EU and Sweden that are opening doors and helping, says Dousa.
