British migration authorities arrested in January over 600 people suspected of having worked illegally in the country. This was a significant increase compared to the same month a year earlier, when around 350 people were arrested for the same suspicions, according to government representatives.
The Labour government has promised tougher measures against those who are in the UK illegally. The raids were carried out against a range of industries such as restaurants, beauty salons, and car washes.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has scrapped predecessor Rishi Sunak's plans to send undocumented migrants to Rwanda pending investigation. Instead, Starmer opted to "crush" the criminal groups that carry out trafficking.
Since the election on July 4 last year, according to the government, 19,000 asylum seekers and migrants have been deported from the UK.
