Alarm about the shooting came just before 11 pm. A large police operation has been ongoing in the area throughout the night. The man was taken to hospital but died of his injuries, according to the police.

The police stated during the night that several people had been arrested, but were later released on Sunday morning.

We have had several detainees. However, they have now been released. We are working with several leads in the investigation, says the police's press spokesperson Mats Eriksson.

Several guests on site

The police do not want to comment on whether there was one or several shooters at present. The shooting was witnessed by several restaurant guests.

There were a lot of people at the restaurant, says Mats Eriksson and continues:

I don't know if there was an immediate danger to them, but it's a risk to be in the vicinity of a shooting.

SVT News has spoken to a witness who was in the restaurant when the shooting occurred.

It was crazy, it's not something you've experienced before, like. Suddenly, three bangs went off and then we hit the floor. Then we got up when we saw people outside and realized the danger was over, says the witness.

On site quickly

The police are said to have been on site after approximately three minutes, according to the person.

Everyone who was inside the restaurant was taken out through the back door and questioned by the police, says the person.

A preliminary investigation into suspected murder has been initiated. Possible connections to gang crime are being looked into.

That's something we always look at, and how it can help us in our work, primarily. Connections to similar crimes or others, says Mats Eriksson.

The police do not want to comment on whether the victim was a target or if he was known to the police previously. During the night, the police have held interviews with a large number of witnesses. Technical evidence and CCTV footage are being collected.
