He also planned to commit more murders and is therefore also being prosecuted for preparation to murder in Gnosjö and Gothenburg.
Not acquainted with the victim
The woman was found dead in a recreational area on the evening of November 13, 2023.
The perpetrator and the 74-year-old woman were not acquainted with each other, and there is no personal motive directed towards her, according to the prosecutor in a press release.
"He himself has come forward with tips to the police, confessing to the crime and providing details that were not publicly known. The police have been able to confirm most of the information he provided, and there is also technical evidence linking him to the crime," says senior prosecutor Johan Stenberg, who is leading the investigation.
Planned more murders
The investigation has shown that the man, after the crime in 2023, planned to commit more murders.
"He has reconnoitered crime scenes, bought knives and other weapons, and gone to potential crime scenes to look for someone to kill. He has also traveled to Gothenburg with the same intention," says Johan Stenberg.
An initial psychiatric evaluation last fall concluded that the man may be suffering from a serious mental disorder. A more extensive evaluation later found the opposite, and that he can therefore be sentenced to prison.
The trial begins on January 8 and is expected to last for three days.
Corrected: An earlier version contained incorrect information about the man's mental state.
