Argentine police claim to have stopped an Islamist terrorist cell that planned an attack on the Jewish population in the city of Mendoza, according to media in the country.

Seven suspected members have been arrested and the police have carried out eight raids on their homes. There, firearms, knives, and electronics were seized, according to security authorities.

The new plot was uncovered after three people with Syrian and Lebanese citizenship were arrested in February, suspected of planning a terrorist attack, according to the authorities.

Argentina has the largest Jewish population in Latin America. The right-wing populist President Javier Milei has shown strong support for Israel during the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.
