Extensive protests and unrest, as well as harsh crackdowns by Iran's authorities against demonstrators, followed her death.

The two female reporters Niloufar Hamedi, who reported on Amini's death, and Elaheh Mohammadi, who wrote about Amini's funeral, are said to have been pardoned last week by Iran's supreme leader.

Hundreds of people have simultaneously been pardoned by the ayatollah in connection with the celebration of the anniversary of the 1979 power takeover, reports Mizanonline, which is close to Iran's Justice Department.

The two reporters were sentenced to multi-year prison terms for propagating against Iran's regime and for cooperating with the USA. The two are said to have been free on bail since January 2024.
