A call to action has been published on the website of the Palestinian literature festival, Palfest, and concerns boycotting the publishers, festivals, and literary agencies in Israel that support the regime. Among the signatories are names such as Arundhati Roy, Ocean Vuong, and Rachel Kushner.
Roy and the other authors have signed a promise to boycott those who are "complicit or silent observers of the overwhelming oppression of Palestinians". The organizers of the campaign have gone through 98 Israeli publishers and only one of them, the small publisher November Books, meets the criteria set by the call to action to not be boycotted.
Author Lionel Shriver criticizes the campaign and believes that it is trying to intimidate authors into joining the call to action. Authors Howard Jacobson and Lee Child are also critical. Child tells the British The Times that authors should not attack "their Israeli counterparts with their hearts in the right place".
