The couple was involved in the tragic accident at Gröna Lund a year ago. Karin Elmegard fell seven meters and suffered fractures to both arms and legs. Her husband Mikael managed to cling to a steel beam hanging high above the ground.
Now they have ridden a rollercoaster again – at Liseberg.
It's part of the psychological recovery. We want to show ourselves that we can do everything we did before, says Karin Elmegard to Expressen.
It would be a loss if we couldn't do this.
Several people fell from a great height in the serious accident at Gröna Lund. A woman in her 30s died and nine people were taken to hospital. Gröna Lund has been criticized by the accident investigation commission after the fatal accident, and the park's management has decided to dismantle the Jetline attraction.
Karin Elmegard has had a long rehabilitation and still longs to one day be able to walk without a cane, she tells Expressen. Before the ride at Liseberg, where they chose the Balder attraction, her doctor had promised that her body was now restored enough to handle the wild turns and drops of a rollercoaster.
I thought about it (the accident) the whole way, I have to admit. It was hard to let go of it. But it was good that we did this. It will get better, says Mikael Elmegard to Expressen after the ride.
