The conference in Bogotá is the most politically significant event to have occurred since the war in Gaza broke out, according to Albanese, who has been subject to US sanctions for her vocal criticism of Israel's warfare in Gaza.
The meeting takes place at an "existential moment" for Israel and the Palestinian people, says UN rapporteur according to The Guardian.
The goal of the Hague group's meeting is to come up with measures that the participating countries can take in line with a motion from the UN General Assembly, with the ultimate goal of getting Israel to end its illegal occupation of the Palestinian areas.
According to Colombia's president Gustavo Petro, who is hosting the meeting, the conference means that the world is "finally moving from condemnation of Israel's military actions to collective efforts to stop them".
The Hague group was formed earlier this year by, among others, South Africa and Colombia, but has since grown to include around 30 countries. Representatives from China, Spain and Qatar, among others, are in attendance in Bogotá.
