Last week, more than 25 percent fewer influenza cases were reported in Sweden than the week before, and now the spread of infection in society is at a medium-high level.
"The fact that fewer influenza cases are being reported suggests a decreased spread of infection, but we still see a strain on healthcare," says state epidemiologist Magnus Gisslén in a press release.
The development in Sweden is similar to that in the rest of Europe, and so far, the influenza season in Sweden has been fairly normal. Three different types of influenza have been circulating, and primarily, the elderly, over 65 years old, and people with underlying diseases have been severely affected.
The spread of the coronavirus, which has been at low levels, has also decreased recently. The winter vomiting disease is also decreasing, while cases of RS virus remain at a medium-high level.
