Police officers on motorcycles drove on a smaller forest road and there the man was found outside the car, says Fredrik Bratt, press spokesperson for the police to TT.
The man was taken to hospital. According to the police, the man had no injuries, but was instead exhausted, since he had not eaten and drunk during the time since his disappearance.
We have worked from the assumption that he probably got lost and that something happened. It may be true, but we need to talk more with him when the opportunity arises, says Fredrik Bratt.
Drove off
The man had been at the airport in Kallinge on Tuesday morning. The police believed he was on his way to his home in Tingsryd municipality, but that he then drove wrong.
As it seems now, he has been in the same place all the time, and has not been able to get away from there, says the police's press spokesperson Patric Fors to TT later on Thursday evening.
The last trace of the man, before he was found, was a phone call where he told that he had driven off - after that the call was interrupted. The phone, which had been dead since then, could be positioned to an area around the village of Tving - where the man was also found.
Complicated operation
Large resources in the form of helicopters, motorcycles, drones and volunteer forces were involved in the search operation. The area was large and consisted to a large extent of forest.
A thermal camera was used in the search, and such a camera becomes less effective during the warm summer months. When the temperature drops in the evening, heated objects, such as stones, give off signals in the same way as a body, according to Patric Fors.
The two motorcycle police officers who found the man had difficulty getting through the road. How he got in there with the car is perhaps something we will find out, he says.
