A powerful high-pressure system and windless weather – then electricity prices soar.
In particular, in southern Sweden (electricity area 4), prices skyrocket to over five kronor per kilowatt-hour (kwh) for a few hours on Wednesday evening. The average price over the Wednesday day rises to around 1.60 kronor per kwh, from 1.17 kronor on Tuesday, according to the electricity exchange Nord Pool.
Even in electricity area 3 (Svealand and northern Götaland), Wednesday becomes expensive, with an average price of 90 öre.
The reason, according to electricity analyst Johan Sigvardsson at Bixia, is the powerful high-pressure system over the continent, which brings completely windless weather in, among other places, Germany, where the price rises to over 8 kronor per kwh. This affects prices, especially in southern Sweden.
The rest of the week's weather forecast looks similar, with high prices as a result.
In Norrland, the electricity price remains at a few öre.
