For the first time in over three years, the euro zone's industrial growth is visible, according to preliminary purchasing manager figures for August from Hamburg Commercial Bank (HCOB).

It has been tough for the industry in Europe in recent years. The last time the euro zone's manufacturing industry measured growth according to the purchasing managers' index was in June 2022.

HCOB's economist Cyrus de la Rubia writes in a comment that Europe's companies seem to have managed relatively well despite being shaken by the US tariffs and other uncertainty.

"Things are getting better", he writes.

The overall index, which also includes the service sector, landed at 51.1. It is the highest level in 15 months and slightly above expectations of 50.6.
