In China, the stock exchanges are mostly up in the initial trading. Shanghai and Shenzhen's composite index both rise by about 0.4 percent, while the Hong Kong-based Hang Seng remains at an unchanged level.
The South Korean Kospi saw a larger decline on Wednesday, but has recovered significantly on Thursday morning, local time, and is up by about 1.2 percent.
The Japanese Nikkei 225, on the other hand, has not seen any turnaround after yesterday's negative development – which came in the wake of weak export figures – and was down by 0.6 percent at lunchtime. Softbank, which among other things is the owner of the semiconductor company ARM, is losing heavily for the second day in a row, and is down by about 2.5 percent.
