Hate crimes against Jews have become more frequent in Denmark and now politicians in the parliament are responding by proposing tougher penalties for hate crimes in specific zones.

From 7 October last year to 13 June this year, the Danish police registered 187 reports of hate crimes against Jews.

Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard (S) believes that an "epidemic of anti-Semitism" is taking place in Europe and that it requires action.

Funding is also being allocated to give more young people the opportunity to visit sites where concentration camps were located.
