A landslide at a gold mine in southern Mali has resulted in several deaths and many missing, most of them women, according to authorities in the West African country.
The accident occurred on Wednesday in the village of Danga, where the affected people were trapped in a hole with muddy water that caused great destruction, according to the local government.
"Unfortunately, no one managed to escape" writes the government on social media.
Mali is one of the poorest countries in the world – and at the same time one of Africa's largest gold producers.
By Thursday evening, the death toll was around "ten", but it is feared to rise.
